However, it is important to keep in mind there is always a risk involved such as many other cosmetic procedures.

How many Medlite laser treatments are required to obtain the desired results?

Rejuvenation of the skin occurs gradually over time. The collagen in the skin will develop within 6 to 12 months; thus, the improvement will be seen over a period of time*. Some pigmentation or freckles may require two or more procedures to obtain the desired result. The results of the treatment depend on various factors. Superficial marks, such as age spots or freckles, can be cured more quickly than complex and deeper lesions like Nevus of Ota. Your cosmetic dermatologist will be able to advise you how many treatments to expect.

What is the waiting period between two treatments?

Dr. Paul Jarrod Frank recommends that his patients wait for a minimum of four weeks between treatments. This time period allows for maximum fading of the targeted skin pigmentation, so an accurate view of the results can be seen before performing the next procedure.

How does the Medlite laser work on pigmented lesions?

When Medlite laser is applied to the pigmented lesion, the cells with excessive pigments absorb the light. The tissue surrounding the pigmented lesions will not absorb the laser. As such, the cells are stimulated by the Medlite laser to reduce excessive pigments without damaging the surrounding tissues.

Are there any side effects associated with the procedure?

After the Medlite laser procedure, the area treated will appear white or pale after the first half hour, and you may experience warmness in the treated area. The treated area may become swollen and red for the remaining part of the day. Occasionally, the patient may observe a small amount of bleeding in the treated areas for some hours. The bleeding usually occurs on the cells where there was deep pigmentation, causing superficial bruising below the blemishes. For the initial few days, you may notice a crusting of the skin or superficial blisters, which should resolve on its own within a week. Within one or two weeks, your skin will return to its normal condition.
