Acne Treatments

There are numerous acne treatments available on the market and many promise effective results, but fail to deliver. While topical remedies are often considered the first line of defense, severe cases may require cutting-edge technology for effective and lasting results. At PFRANKMD, we provide a number of advanced acne treatments available at our NYC locations in the Upper East Side and West Village, along with treatments for acne scarring, folliculitis, and enlarged pores.

What Is Acne?

Acne occurs when there is an accumulation of oil, dirt, bacteria, or dead skin cells, known as sebum, that clogs your pores. A pimple, whitehead, or blackhead develops in the clogged pore and over time, can lead to cystic or nodular acne. Acne can lead to scarring or even hyperpigmentation. Teenagers and young adults may get acne at some point, but it can also occur in adulthood, resulting in pesky blemishes.

Am I a Good Candidate for Acne Treatments?

We provide a number of different acne treatments, so there is definitely one that’s suitable for your unique needs. Our team will determine the best treatment based on your specific case.

The ideal candidate for laser acne treatments, such as AviClear, Aerolase, Laser Genesis, or Vbeam, you should not have any open lesions, infections, or skin cancer. If you have a history of keloid scarring, we may recommend a treatment that does not involve a laser. Laser acne treatments can be safe for women who are pregnant, but we recommend discussing the treatment with your OB/GYN prior to scheduling your appointment.

Your Consultation

At your consultation, we will determine the acne treatment that is right for you and your specific needs. The severity and type of acne will be considered when developing a tailored treatment plan. Additional tests may be requested to rule out other skin disorders and your medical history will be reviewed to assess any risk factors.

Once our team recommends the best option for you, we will discuss the treatment, what to expect before, during, and after, and answer any questions you may have.

Our Treatment Options:

AviClear – This FDA-approved laser treatment targets overactive oil-producing, sebaceous glands, reducing face and body acne and lessening the severity of future breakouts. It also shrinks enlarged pores.

Aerolase – This state-of-the-art, non-ablative skin treatment uses high-energy laser pulses to destroy acne-causing bacteria and treat overactive oil glands and reduce active acne. Its laser energy also reduces the appearance of acne scars by stimulating collagen production.

Laser Genesis – This laser treatment is ideal for stimulating collagen production to help with frustrating acne scars.

Vbeam Prima – Vbeam Prima is a state-of-the-art treatment that uses laser energy to rejuvenate the skin, targeting acne scars for smooth skin.

Ellacor – This fractional micro-coring device removes tiny micro-cores of skin using hollow needles. As a result, the skin’s natural healing process is triggered, clearing away acne scars and tightening the skin.

Vivace RF Microneedling – Vivace RF microneedling treatments create microchannels on the skin. As channels are created, radiofrequency energy is delivered to the treatment area. This encourages reduction of the targeted acne scars and enlarged pores.

Cryotherapy – By delivering pressurized cryogenic air to the targeted areas, this treatment reduces redness and inflammation to treat inflamed, active acne. It can also shrink oversized pores.

Topical and Oral Antibiotics – Folliculitis and certain types of acne can be treated with antibiotics to reduce acne and redness and treat infected hair follicles.

Clear + Brilliant – Clear and Brilliant is a skin-resurfacing laser treatment that helps stimulate the production of collagen and speed up the skin’s regeneration rate, healing enlarged pores and acne scars.

TCA CROSS – TCA CROSS stands for Clinical Reconstruction of Skin Scars. The treatment uses trichloroacetic acid to reduce oversized pores.

Aftercare

Every acne treatment has a different recovery process. The majority of acne treatments don’t require any recovery or downtime. You are able to get back to work immediately or resume your daily routine right away. There may be slight swelling or redness, but these should resolve quickly. Stay away from prolonged sun exposure, tanning beds, and topical applications that may irritate the skin. You may be required to come back for additional sessions to maximize the treatment’s efficacy.

Cost of Acne Treatments

The cost of acne treatments will be discussed during the consultation. Factors such as type of treatment, how many sessions the treatment will take, size and number of treatment areas, and severity of the issues being treated can impact the overall price.
