DYSPORT

Dysport, like Botox, is a wrinkle relaxer that may reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. While both Botox and Dysport are comprised of the same main ingredient – botulinum toxin, they are measured in different units and contain a different amount of the neuroprotein.

Dysport Injections vs.
Botox Injections in NYC

The main difference is preference. For some patients, Botox lasts longer and for others, Dysport lasts longer. Some key factors to consider are:

Botox was FDA approved in 2002 by the United States Food and Drug Administration for the treatment of the glabella region (the skin between the eyebrows and above the nose).

Dysport was FDA-approved for the same treatment in 2009.

The dilution and concentration of Botox and Dysport are different.

Dysport dissolves with a wider radius than Botox, meaning that the injection reaches farther corners of the face and potentially maximizes effects.

As both relaxants are derived from a neurotoxin, the body may produce antibodies to fight the relaxant. As a result, the targeted areas may become less responsive to the effects of the administered relaxant. In this case, Dr. Frank will propose using the alternative relaxant.

Indications for Dysport

Dysport is used to reduce the appearance of facial lines. The filler is often injected by Dr. Frank at five calculated points across your forehead so as to flatten the deeply rooted expression lines that can make you look angry, tired, or aged. Dysport counteracts wrinkles that have formed in response to repeated muscle contractions, most commonly concentrated along the forehead and between the eyebrows. Other areas that can benefit from Dysport injections are:

Crow’s feet

Marionette lines

Nasolabial folds

Neck bands

Underarms for hyperhidrosis

Ideal Candidates for Dysport

Your safety is Dr. Frank’s top priority. It is essential that you communicate all medical history, allergies, and any other possible reasons for complications before committing to your Dysport treatment. The ideal candidate is in good health, is unhappy with facial wrinkling, and is ready to take the first step in achieving a more vibrant, youthful glow. Women who are pregnant or nursing should not use Dysport.

Your Customized Dysport Treatment

Dr. Frank treats each patient on a case-by-case basis. Upon your consultation appointment, Dr. Frank will relate to you the best approach to refreshing your look and eliminating any insecurity involving your appearance. He is always 100% honest when evaluating your condition, and will not recommend Dysport to patients unless he genuinely believes it is a viable option. Once committed, however, he will customize the amount and site of your injection to best suit your personalized needs.

Results

Results of Dysport are not permanent. Effects can last anywhere from 3-6 months*. Depending on the severity of your condition and the level of maintenance with which you upkeep your new rejuvenated look, Dysport can offer noticeable results without making you look plastic or overdone*. Dr. Frank is an expert at performing Dysport injections for both first-time and follow-up patients, and will plan your treatment accordingly.

Recovery After Dysport

You do not have to compromise your busy schedule, take off from work or your daily exercise routine, or comply with any dietary restrictions because of your Dysport injection*. However, because the filler can cause swelling, redness, or bruising, makeup and cover up can be applied to the face in the days following the procedure to conceal these effects.

Possible Side Effects of Dysport

The most common side effects that patients report experiencing are headaches, irritation at the site of injection, redness, and swelling. These symptoms should not be the cause of worry, however, unless they persist for longer than three days*.

Another side effect, though relatively rare, that is directly associated with Dysport is the development of botulism. The condition is defined by the loss of muscle strength, blurred or double vision, and trouble breathing properly. Botulism can form in the hours, days, or even a week after your Dysport treatment, so it is important to be aware of the symptoms and mindful of their persistence. In the event that the pain or swelling becomes unbearable, or if you experience any difficulty or other abnormality while breathing, contact Dr. Frank’s office immediately.
