Xeomin is a botulinum toxin type A, which is also the active ingredient of Botox. Xeomin can be used to treat wrinkles without cosmetic surgery. This treatment is administered via injection and targets wrinkles. Xeomin is approved by the FDA to reduce the appearance of frown lines between the eyebrows, crow’s feet, and the lines found on the smooth area of the forehead. Xeomin is injected directly into the facial muscles of the patient in order to decrease muscle activity. Xeomin is known under the trade name of incobotulinumtoxin A, whereas Botox is known under the trade name of inabotulinumtoxin A.
Both Botox and Xeomin have similar characteristics, but they are marketed by different companies. The dosage, and duration of results for both treatments are about the same. In addition to cosmetic use, Xeomin reduces abnormal sweating, headaches due to muscle strain, and double vision caused by muscle imbalance. Xeomin also reduces muscle spasms of the face. Xeomin is injected directly into the muscles under the targeted treatment area. The effect of the treatment will be seen 5 to 7 days after the treatment*. The effect of the treatment can last for about 3 to 6 months*.
Unlike Botox, Xeomin is free of additives. The complex proteins are removed from Xeomin during an intensive purification process, thus the drug contains only pure 150kD neurotoxin. Since Xeomin does not contain any complex proteins, it will not affect the immune system. Even a high dosage of Xeomin will not result in the production of neutralizing antibodies. Xeomin only recently obtained approval from the FDA for use in cosmetic procedures. Xeomin is manufactured by Merz Pharmaceuticals and is best suited for people who have stopped responding to repeated treatments.
Xeomin Wrinkle Treatment
You may not see any visible results immediately after the procedure. In the days after the treatment, the protein in Xeomin will begin to block nerve transmission from nerve endings to the targeted muscles*. This gradually relaxes the overactive muscles, which may result in the reduction of wrinkles. The risks are minimal and side effects are very rare with Xeomin. You may experience swelling or bruising after the injection, but it will gradually disappear after a few days. Xeomin is not a permanent cosmetic solution, but you can maintain the results by repeating the treatment when wrinkles begin to appear again. Dr. Paul Jarrod Frank can do an excellent job minimizing your wrinkles through the use of Xeomin injections.
