KYBELLA

The woeful double chin. It is perhaps, one of the most common complaints for both men and women. Resistant to diet and exercise, that bothersome bulge stubbornly refuses to go away, leaving many discouraged in their quest for a defined jawline. Under-the-chin fat, also referred to as submental fat, can be caused by weight gain, aging or genetics and – quite often – a combination of the three. Unfortunately, once fat has accumulated under the chin, it can be difficult to reduce without cosmetic surgery or minimally-invasive solutions like UltraTight. For those who are looking for a non-invasive treatment for under-the-chin fat, there is great news. Dr. Frank is pleased to offer Kybella treatments, the latest player in the battle against localized chin fat.

Approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in April 2015, Kybella is a promising new non-invasive treatment that addresses moderate-to-severe double chins. The active agent in Kybella is identical to deoxycholic acid, a substance the body manufactures that helps treat fat.

Non-Surgical Double
Chin Treatment

During a Kybella treatment, Dr. Frank will administer an injection into the fatty area beneath the chin. Although the number of injections needed will vary from patient-to-patient, up to 50 injections can be given during a single session. Dr. Frank will recommend the total number of treatments necessary to reduce the excess fat on a patient-to-patient basis, but up to six may be advised for optimal results. Subsequent treatments should be scheduled no less than a month apart.

Patients can expect to experience some minor side effects, such as swelling, temporary numbness, and redness in the treated area. However, these symptoms will quickly subside on their own. To best maintain the outcome, patients are advised to follow a healthy diet, exercise regularly, and avoid weight gain.

Although Kybella injections are a relatively straight-forward procedure, it is important to have them done by a board-certified dermatologist who has been properly trained to administer Kybella. If improperly injected, Kybella can potentially damage skin cells or cause nerve injury.

Dr. Frank is one of the first NYC cosmetic dermatologists to offer Kybella treatments. A Board certified dermatologist and dermatologic surgeon, he works with renowned precision, minimizing the chances of adverse side effects.
