Excessive sweating causes both physical and social discomfort. This difficult problem, seen commonly on the underarms, hands, and feet, can now be treated effectively using BOTOX®, in addition or in lieu of topical and oral options. Local injection into the area of involvement, safely and reversibly stuns overactive sweat glands for up to 6 months. The chemical that BOTOX inhibits for wrinkles also is involved in the release of sweat in the body. Virtually free of side effects, the treatment does not have any effect on the body’s ability to regulate temperature or on other sweat glands elsewhere on the body. Great for individuals sensitive to deodorants and antiperspirants. Now approved by the FDA, this treatment is often covered by healthcare insurance companies. Dr. Frank and his staff can assist you in the approval process. For those who are not candidates for Botox, there are several other options that Dr. Frank can discuss upon consultation.
For patients with more severe forms of axillary hyperhidrosis (excessive underarm sweating) or individuals who don’t want the maintenance of Botox treatments several times a year, there is a non-invasive permanent option. VASER Hyperhidrosis Therapy is a minimally-invasive surgical procedure that can be performed in-office under local anesthesia in an hour. Through a miniscule incision into the skin of the armpit local anesthesia is first infused. Then, using the ultrasonic energy of the VASER device, a thin wand is passed to heat the undersurface of the axillary skin where the sweat glands are. A simple bandage is placed and the patient goes home. Recovery is minimal with a return to work and play within 24
hours. A permanent reduction in sweating is achieved immediately and the risks are minimal to none. Please ask Dr. Frank about this spectacular procedure.
