Skin Tightening
Devices in this class deliver heat very deep into the skin with the intent to contract tissue and stimulate collagen production that would ultimately cause tissue tightening. In addition, many of these technologies are also used to treat cellulite with variable efficacy. Radiofrequency, both unipolar and bipolar, ultrasound, and infrared light technologies are used. Originally used for the face for non-invasive facelifts, these devices are also widely used now on the body. They are often combined with other treatments such as Fillers. See FLT procedure link.
The original device in this class is the Thermage®, or Thermalift™ procedure. It is a bipolar radiofrequency device. Now several advances later, the device is called Thermage® CPT. In general the protocol is for one treatment, although many patients may get more than one.
Other competing devices generally have multiple treatment protocols, including Titan™, ReFirm™, VelaSmooth™/Velashape™, and Accent, Triactive™, Aluma™, and Ulthera®.
