Fraxel New York Update
For years, dermatologists have been treating sun damage with chemical peels, liquid nitrogen and topical chemotherapy. Actinic keratosis are precancerous lesions that develop from chronic sun abuse and become a common cosmetic and medical concern for fair skinned individuals. Unfortunately, they usually do not appear as solitary lesions, requiring full face treatments that can provide significant downtime and sometimes scarring.
Recent studies have shown that treatments with the Fraxel Dual Laser, particularly the new Thulium wavelength in the device, dramatically reduces the number of precancerous actinic keratosis on the treated areas. With 1-2 treatments that have minimal downtime, patients can significantly reduce their risk of non melanoma skin cancers.
Dr. Paul Frank, Director of the 5th Avenue Dermatology Surgery & Laser Center, was one of the first doctors in New York City to utilize the Fraxel Dual technology. Traditionally used on the face, the Fraxel Dual laser can be used on the scalp, chest arms and legs, as well.
